Who we work with
Client Overview
Millboard is a family business and specialist manufacturing firm constructing high quality decking and other flooring systems for outdoor spaces. The Millboard solution combines the natural beauty of real timber with the high performance of a unique, wood-free composite material, making it resistance to algae growth, stains and scratches, and easy to maintain. Started over two decades ago by the Douglass family, the business has seen a second generation take over the reins and work to apply modern practices to ensure the firm is a 21st century business, whilst holding onto the core values from when it was founded.
We were originally approached by Millboard to help the business identify a new, modern ERP system to support the continued growth of the business.
However, in our discussions with the Directors regarding the issues they were looking to address, concerns were raised about the efficiency/productivity of their manufacturing facility which made it difficult for the business to meet the ever-increasing demand for their product. Therefore, in addition to managing the selection of a new ERP system, we agreed to provide support to help address the manufacturing issues within the business.
It was quickly apparent that line management and frontline supervision needed improvement. We, therefore, supported the Directors in the recruitment of a new Operations Manager, helping pull together a job description, placing job adverts, being part of the interview process and undertaking Competency Assessments of candidates.
We provided front line supervisors with advice in the management of people and introduced the team to downtime and root cause analysis, and the principles of Six Sigma Controls. We ensured maintenance procedures and key spares requirements were documented and introduced.
To help with this, we specified the requirements for a Manufacturing Control System to provide OEE reporting (Overall Equipment Effectiveness) in order to drive continuous improvement and preventative maintenance activities.
